About

Mosaics and sculptures – stone and driftwood

  • Tomaž Hartman, 1957, forester
  • interests: nature, travel, books, photography, mosaics, lying on the couch…
  • mosaics: since 2006, does not know why (middle age crisis?), a forever self-taught beginner
  • process:
    • finding ideas (works of great masters, photography, books, museums, nature, old stories, web …)
    • sketching in a notepad (even at night) and a computer
    • searching for mosaic pieces (an excuse for a winter trip to the sea)
    • experimental assembling and rearrangement
    • assembling (sometimes it goes fast, sometimes it takes days and days, sometimes the mosaic does not assemble)
    • photo for the documentation and the book
    • search for a free wall for a mosaic exhibition

Somewhere in between - moments of joy.

  • technique:
    • indirect - inserting into a thin concrete board
    • direct - gluing onto a wooden board
  • materials: pebbles from everywhere, sea driftwood, shards, shells, glass, rusty iron…
  • frames: old driftwood
  • exhibitions: Kočevje 2012 & 2018, Zagreb 2016, Ljubljana 2016, Podsreda 2018, Grosuplje 2018
